Cable Car Ride

The Cable Car Ride is a street car ride powered by cable. Take a maiden voyage through the city’s steel hills on a cable-car is a “Must Do Experience.” The San Francisco cable-car system is the world’s last manually operated cable car system. The riding system forms part of the intermodal urban transport network operated by the SF Municipal Railway. Of the 23 lines established between 1873 and 1890, only three remain. The two routes from downtown near Union Square to Fisherman’s Wharf and another route along California Street remain. While the cars are used to a certain extent by commuters, the majority of their annual passengers are tourists.
